Below, you'll find interviews from OR head coach Dana Altman and guard Tyler Dorsey. Just moments after the Ducks left the field at Oregon State, Helfrich was asked about his job security.
OR football coach Mark Helfrich has been fired after four seasons.
OR had not fired a football coach in 40 years, and the school owes Helfrich an $11.6 million buyout for the final three years of a contract extension he signed in February 2015, shortly after the Ducks lost to Ohio State in the inaugural CFP title game. But Oregon faltered this year with a five-game losing streak, and finished at the bottom of the Pac-12 North with just two conference wins.
Helfrich coached the Ducks to a 37-16 record after taking over from Chip Kelly in 2013.
Mark Helfrich, center, was the first native Oregonian to coach the Ducks in 71 years.
"We want to thank Mark for his eight years with the University of OR and appreciate his efforts on behalf of OR football", Athletic Director Rob Mullens said in a statement.
On Sunday, Mark Helfrich faced the media with poise and composure not knowing his fate as the Oregon Ducks Head Coach.
It is with respect and disappointment that we receive this decision. "It's an eye-opener, those two games (losses) on how much we need to put in work and get back in the gym and focus on the little details of what coaches say", sophomore guard Tyler Dorsey said. With how the recruiting and stuff goes, you play in their camps and their team camps, and you never hear from them.
Ducks started this season ranked No. 24 in the preseason AP Top 25, but lost 35-32 at Nebraska in the third week of the season, starting the team's longest losing streak since 1996. The four victories were the fewest since 1991 when the Ducks went 3-8. Freshman Justin Herbert took over midway through the year and did an admirable job but it was not enough to save Helfrich's job.

Fan discontentment with Helfrich grew as the season dragged on and wins were scarce. In the off season Brady Hoke came to the Oregon Ducks to install a new 4-3 Defense, but from the start the Rush Defense did not perform up to par and injuries riddled the scheme the entire season. Quarterback Marcus Mariota won the Heisman Trophy that season as well.
Two consecutive losses to the Cougars and the first blowout loss of the season heated up Helfrich's seat.
