Waymo is just one technology company racing to build a low-priced, reliable self-driving kit.
Waymo, a startup recently formed out of Google's Self-Driving Car Project, just announced a new look for its growing fleet. Later this month, the company - formerly the Google self-driving auto project - will be rolling out its fleet of self-driving minivans onto public roads for the first time. "And to do that we have to oversee both the self-driving software and the self-driving hardware".
At the auto show, Krafcik showcased one of Waymo's autonomous minivans, which relies on a combination of short, medium and long range lidar as well as camera and radar sensors.
To maximize the safety potential of self-driving technology, Krafcik said that once it hits the market, he wants to ensure Waymo's platform is affordable and accessible to a wide variety of consumers.
