Bill O'Reilly Out at Fox News After Sex Harassment Allegations

Eric Bolling, who had been a co-host of "The Five", is taking the 5 p.m. hour by himself, though his new show will not debut until May 1. Concern over whether Fox broke the law by failing to disclose its settlements to investors is more likely to impact approval than whether the company is mired in sexual misconduct allegations, said Claire Enders of Enders Analysis, who has studied the Murdoch empire for years.

O'Reilly's departure will not have any effect on Twenty-First Century Fox's overall profitability, said Brian Wieser, an analyst at Pivotal Research.

His ouster came after reports that five women had been paid millions of dollars to keep quiet about harassment allegations. O'Reilly could be totally innocent but when advertisers abandon ship, it's over.

As Fox News scrambles to retain an image of "respect" and "truth", it is clear that O'Reilly's replacement in the form of Carlson will have to be much more than just a simple rescheduling of time slots and on-air content.

The National Geographic channel has turned several of O'Reilly's books into TV movies.

What do you think should happen next for Fox News? In a statement, he called it "tremendously disheartening that we part ways due to completely unfounded claims".

In a statement posted on his Web site, O'Reilly said he was "extremely proud" of his time at Fox News, which he said "significantly contributed to building Fox into the dominant news network in television". He thanked his viewers and noted the success Fox had achieved. They drew sharp contrasts between O'Reilly and his fellow primetime hosts Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson, who they described as being friendly in person despite being polarizing on camera. Next week, "Special Report with Bret Baier" will fill the 5-to-7-p.m. timeslot.

Wendy Walsh, a former commentator on O'Reilly's show, came forward this month saying he cut her loose after she refused his advances following a dinner business meeting at the Hotel Bel-Air.

The show itself will be removed from the lineup beginning Monday.

Bill O'Reilly has been forced out of Fox News following a series of sexual harassment allegations made against him, and Hollywood's reaction is basically, 'Bye, Felicia.' See the passionate tweets from Debra Messing, Billy Eichner and more right here!

O'Reilly's departure will not have any effect on Twenty-First Century Fox's overall profitability, said Brian Wieser, an analyst at Pivotal Research.

"You need to write and call Fox News Channel today and tell them, 'You can lose your advertisers or you can lose your viewers, ' " Beck said on his radio show.

But despite rising ratings, dozens of companies yanked their advertising from his show.

Vatican spokesman Greg Burke confirmed O'Reilly was in the VIP section for the pope's Wednesday appearance.

Francis always swings by the VIP seats at the end of his audience for a quick round of handshakes.

Representatives at Fox News and its parent, 21st Century Fox, were not immediately available for comment about how O'Reilly might be replaced.
