Coming down heavily on Pakistan for the death sentence awarded to Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday said the Asian neighbour that is run by the Talibans and terrorists do not believe in democracy.
Some diplomats have recommended that India should not hurry in responding to this move by Pakistan as the case is peculiar. It may be recalled that the Pakistani Army holds great influence over the political system in Pakistan and it has the final say on many issues.
Abdul Basit said Pakistan has shared the evidence with Indian government as well.
Dubbing the death sentence given to Jadhav as "inhuman and illegal", Baloch Republican Party (BRP) member Ashraf Sherjan said that Pakistan is committing a crime by giving a death sentence order to Jadhav.
Bagley, however, assured that the government of India will explore all options to bring Jadhav back.
Jadhav was reportedly arrested in March previous year in Balochistan, for allegedly being an Indian spy responsible for fuelling Baloch separatist movement.
"The request to draft the resolution came from Swaraj after Parliament condemned Pakistan for sentencing Kulbhushan Jadhav to death", the reports said. It was the first direct interaction between the army chief and the Prime Minister.
"We are in touch with Pakistan through our High Commission", Gopal Bagley said.
Former Indian navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav was arrested in March 2016.
A Pakistani military court handed the death sentence to Kulbhushan Jadhav on April 10, convicting him of spying and fomenting unrest in the province of Balochistan.
And in an obvious reference to Indian warnings of consequences if Jadhav was hanged, he added: "We will defend our country at all costs". "We did not change any law and neither are we victimising anyone", he said, adding that action was taken after evidence was collected and everything was done in accordance with the existing laws of the land.
In the last few days, we have seen several protests in various parts of the country demanding release of Jadhav from the Pakistani jail.
