Serena Williams posted a photo of her baby bump on SnapChat on Wednesday it broke the internet.
The 35-year-old yesterday posted a picture of herself on Snapchat posing in a mirror with the message: "20 weeks" before deleting the post.
Williams' Snapchat post, quickly highlighted in United States media, showed the 35-year-old in a yellow swimsuit that revealed an apparent baby bump. "I'm happy to confirm Serena is expecting a baby this fall", a rep for Williams said Wednesday.
Serena Williams has the pull of one last tennis record when she returns to the sport in 2018 (most likely to defend her Australian Open title).
The legendary tennis player announced her engagement to Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit, in December. If she is 20 weeks pregnant, this simply means that she was pregnant at the time she won the Australian Open back in January. Only one woman has won more: Margaret Smith Court, who claimed part of her 24 during the amateur era.
Her appearance at the Australian Open tuneup event in Auckland, New Zealand, marked her first tournament since a semi-final exit at Flushing Meadows last September.
Serena Williams has announced that she is pregnant, and while that is a wonderful development for her it will also have seismic impact on women's tennis. The worry here of course is she could have fallen over while playing, but a woman could fall over at anytime during pregnancy.
While Williams won't play again this year, "she looks forward to returning in 2018", Bush Novak said.
The tennis star has not officially given a statement yet if she will play in the Madrid Open next month. "From a size change difference, it might take longer for that to be an issue with her, depending on how she carries", said Pivarnik, who has studied the impact of pregnancy on exercise for the past three decades. The next major tournament is the French Open, which starts on May 28.
Former No. 1 Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, 27, missed most of the 2016 season to have a baby and is expected to return to the tour this summer.
Sister Venus, 36, has won seven Grand Slam singles titles.
Another tennis player, Kim Clijsters, returned after having children to win Grand Slams and dominate the game.
