WASHINGTON (AP) - After John Wall told Markieff Morris what to expect in his National Basketball Association playoff debut, the Washington Wizards' All-Star guard showed everyone his postseason best.
"The game ratchets up when you get into the playoffs", Durant said.
In game-1, the Hawks were equally scoring through the second quarter but lagged 7 points by the start of the fourth.
Wall earned chants of "M-V-P!" while contributing 32 points and nine assists, including a dish to Beal for his key 3-pointer with 38 seconds remaining that sealed the win for the hosts.
Howard did manage to score on a putback plus a powerhouse baseline move against Gortat, but his overall inferior play limited him to seven points on 2-of-6 shooting, and reduced his playing time to 29 minutes.
And he couldn't get there by being "dolo".
In regards to becoming an MVP, Wall responded with, "I won't be finishing first".
Hawks: Shot 0 for 8 on 3-point attempts in the first half, and finished 4 for 20. "The pressure is just playing hard".
Beal finished with 31 points, 16 on 6-of-9 shooting in the final period. On Wednesday, Beal explained why for over a year he has feigned ignorance over the word.
"I was exhausted; I'll tell you that much". Like, it's over. A miss is a lady.
Said guard Bradley Beal: "We continue to feed off of that".
"I was just hoping that he would stick the landing. That's who we've been playing against all year", Porter said.
"I heard Millsap saying they don't want Brad and John to score as much and they want to let us [other Wizards] score - basically is what he's saying", Morris said according to The Post. I finally shot the ball, that's the thing.
"They were the aggressor for more of the 48 minutes than we were and they were probably more physical for more of the 48 minutes than we were", said Budenholzer. "We've just got to scramble. When he's aggressive for us it opens up the floor for me and it was good to see him get it going in the fourth quarter and make some shots to close out the game".
The Hawks had their moments - after a sluggish start their reserves outplayed the Wizards backups to start the second quarter. Brandon Jennings had 10 points.
"That's what he's capable of. I was going to give him a 10", Brooks said. Bradley Beal overcame a slow start to score 22 points, and Markieff Morris contributed 21 points, seven rebounds and four blocks in his National Basketball Association playoff debut. Some of that is self-inflicted, but Morris also presents a matchup nightmare that Wall knew was possible when the Wizards traded a first-round pick for the power forward at the 2016 trade deadline. "That's a great feeling when your "PG" has that confidence in you". He's the most mild-mannered person that I've been around that has a competitive spirit. Another dunk, another eruption from the Verizon Center crowd. He held a plastic-wrapped box - a fresh batch of white and red rubber wristbands customized with his mottos: "BB3" and 'bOb.' The first acronym, of course, stands for his initials and jersey number. Even so the young gunner should also know how much his brothers in white, red and blue trust in him.
Moreover, the Hawks' reliance on individual play limited them to registering only 18 assists on their 34 baskets.
John Wall treated the Atlanta Hawks like chess pieces on Sunday, manipulating their fourth-ranked defense as he pleased.
