The phone is the third handset to be announced with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 processor, after the Sony Xperia XZ Premium and Samsung Galaxy S8. The Xiaomi Mi 6 brandishes a 5.15-inch full HD (1920 x 1080) show, 6GB of RAM and comes in the previously mentioned capacity variations.
Like the iPhone 7 Plus, the new 5.15-inch Mi 6 includes a 12-megapixel rear dual lens camera combining a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens.
The phone comes in two variants - 64GB and 128GB of inbuilt storage. The brand's latest flagship boasts of a sleek new design that incorporates four-sided 3D glass for a more seamless and rounded curved look. A stainless steel-made frame is installed to hold the display and sides of the phone together. The out-of-box update is the removal of headphone jack from it, making the user to use the USB jack type-C port for music or headphones.
The flagship is very much awaited and is also anticipated in terms of competition to the Galaxy S8 and being powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. For selfies, there's an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.
The Xiaomi Mi6 will have a starting price of $360 (AED 1322).
Lei said the company, which gained strong presence in the country's smartphone sector via its web-only sales model, succeeded in cost control, enabling the same product at a bricks-and-mortar store, Mi Home, to be sold at the same price as their online peers.
Another advantage of the dual camera setup is the ability to shoot attractive portraits with out-of-focusbackgrounds. The other popular smartphone now released with the chipset is the Samsung Galaxy S8, which costs significantly higher than the Xiaomi Mi 6. In addition to these, Xiaomi will also be selling the following color options in China: gold, gray, pink, champagne gold, dark gray, cherry blossom, and frosted black. There's an under-glass fingerprint sensor on the front of the device, despite rumours that Apple has been struggling to bake Touch ID into the screen of the upcoming iPhone 8.
The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 promises long hours of usage courtesy of its massive 5,000 mAh battery, which tops its predecessor's 4,850 mAh battery pack. However, it seems as Mi 6 has given a tough competition to the most coveted smartphone.
The 835 is coupled with 6GB RAM and storage options are 64GB and 128GB. While the company said that an worldwide release for "selected" markets will be announced at a later date, it will remain largely focused on its home turf and other emerging markets like India.
