In the run-up to the film's release next month, Universal Pictures has released a new featurette for upcoming action adventure The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise. Jekyll heads up Prodigium, a society dedicated to analyzing and fighting monsters, and this featurette gives us some footage of the interactions between Nick and Dr. Jekyll as Cruise, Crowe, and director Alex Kurtzman discuss these character dynamics. But as we all know from the stories of old, Jekyll has his own secrets in the form of Mr. Hyde. The Oscar victor is Dr. Jekyll, a key figure in the new Universal Monsters film universe, and this new video reveals his dark side. It's not totally dissimilar to how Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. wove their connective tissue throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, using the organization's resources and influence as a means to draw a number of different characters together. Crowe continues: "Jekyll operates a thing called Prodigium, which is essentially an organisation that pinpoints evil and tries to neutralise it. There's a lot t find out in Jekyll and it's not giving to much away to say that he has quite a clear understanding of evil". And towards the end of the clip, we get a brief glimpse of Crowe's transformation from Dr. Jekyll into Mr. Hyde. If anything, the creators made sure that they ground it on science, hence the inclusion of museums and Dr. Jekyll in the research of monsters.
The Mummy will hit theaters on June 9, 2017. The cast also includes Annabelle Wallis (King Arthur, "Peaky Blinders"), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Courtney B. Vance ("American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson"), Oscar victor Russell Crowe (Gladiator), and Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Star Trek Beyond) as the titular character.
