ESPN's Jackie MacMullan said this week on "Bob Ryan's Boston Podcast" that Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge attempted to trade Thomas past year to acquire an additional lottery pick.
The Celtics drafted Jaylen Brown with the third pick in that draft, amid speculation that they would either pick Kris Dunn or trade for Jimmy Butler. The C's already have a stud point guard in Isaiah Thomas, the third-leading scorer in the National Basketball Association this past season, and there's only one ball.
"He's excited", Thomas said, then appeared to catch himself. "I mean, he obviously doesn't know where he's going, but. he's excited about the opportunity".
Boston's players - other than Isaiah Thomas - just have to make the majority.
"He's a good friend of mine", Thomas said of the fellow University of Washington product, according to ESPN.
Thomas is already saying all the right things about playing with Fultz, and the two should be able to co-exist thanks to the presumptive No. 1 pick's stature and court vision.
Thomas, who was the 60th pick in the 2011 draft, was playfully asked whether it would have been better if Boston landed the final pick instead of the first. If it happens, we'll figure out how to play together.
